Diagnostic Ultrasound
Diagnostic ultrasound (or sonography) is an imaging technique that has been used for decades to evaluate internal organs and babies that are still in the womb. Over the past decade a tremendous amount of research has been performed on the use of diagnostic ultrasound to image musculoskeletal structures of the body. Diagnostic ultrasound is now becoming available in the offices of many podiatric and orthopedic specialists. Diagnostic ultrasound is reported to be as accurate as MRI studies of muscles, tendons, ligaments, soft tissue mass and numerous other pathology. The advantage of a diagnostic ultrasound study is that it can be performed immediately in your Doctor's office, the anatomy being examined can be manipulated for better positioning and clarity during the examination, the examination only takes a few minutes, and diagnostic ultrasound imaging generally cost less than 10% of an MRI study.
Wadsworth Foot & Ankle, LLC is one of the few Podiatry practices in NE Ohio that utilizes diagnostic ultrasound in the office. Dr. Campbell performs all ultrasound examinations and interpretations personally. Below are some examples of conditions that can be examined with diagnostic ultrasound. If you think diagnostic ultrasound may be helpful in diagnosing your foot or ankle pain, call our office today for an evaluation.
